- Wildflower seeds need light to germinate, so don't cover them with soil when planting. Before you start, clear the area and work the soil. If weeds sprout along with the flowers, don't worry—this often happens after soil is worked.
- Mix seeds with sand (5 parts sand to 1 part seed) for even distribution. This also helps track where you've already seeded. Hand-broadcast the seeds for small areas, but for larger spaces, use a seed spreader.
- After sowing, lightly press the seeds into the soil to about 1/4 inch to protect them from birds and wind.
